I have just finished posting the first round of videos! As the week goes on, there will be more posted to each category, so continue to check back. Right now we have only posted Reading Recovery lessons, but we will work on getting some Literacy Group lessons up there next. We divided the video according to the different parts of the Reading Recovery lesson. When you click on the "Videos" tab at the top, you will then see the video channels on the right of the page. The channels correspond to the various parts of a Reading Recovery lesson. If you click on any channel, a short description will be shown. This explains what happens during that section of the lesson, and what the purpose is. Hopefully this will give you some context as you watch the clip. Enjoy, and feel free to comment or contact us with any questions! Oh, and I had to upload the videos to YouTube in order to post them on the website, but don't worry - they are "unlisted", which means that they cannot be viewed by just anyone and they do not show up in any search results on YouTube. The only people who can view the videos are people who have been invited to the Title I website. Happy viewing!

At a recent Title I meeting we discussed how great it would be to give you a window into our classroom. We thought a good way to accomplish this would be to post some videos of our actual lessons for Reading Recovery and Literacy Groups. That way you can get an idea of what it is that we do every day with your kids, and you might even pick up some quick tips and ideas to use at home. We have been taping our lessons each day, so our goal is to get some footage posted here ASAP. Check back soon, we can't wait to share our classroom with you!

Today we had the opportunity to explore using some new technology with our literacy groups. We taught 1st and 2nd grade students how to use iPod touches and iPads wtih some awesome literacy apps that we thought would be yet another great tool for their learning. We were very impressed with how engaged the students were and how much they really enjoyed this! This gave us some great ideas about how our teaching can change in our literacy groups. What a great way to start the new year!

Happy New Year! A special "thank you" from the Title 1 Team for all of those that have become members of our website. We look forward to keeping this updating as much as possible and giving you another tool for you and your kids. Thank you so much to Mrs. Allen for making this website and for providing another resource to us and parents.

Happy 2011! As we begin a new year, we are eager to try out some new things in our program. Mrs. McCloughan is always supportive of our ever-changing and sometimes wacky ideas, and she has helped to make our most recent idea a reality. We now have access to six iPod touches, which will enable us to take more students at a time and more often (every day, versus two or three days a week) because some students can work independently. We are excited to be able to try this out with our second grade literacy groups! Our hope is to begin as early as next week. We will pull a large group (about 15 or so students). One third will work on reading, one third will work on writing, and one third will use the iPods to practice skills and concepts that we may not explicitly teach, like sight words and phonics. These groups will rotate so that every student gets equal amounts of instruction each week. We cannot wait to see the results of this increased time with students, and we look forward to hearing feedback as we strive to find what is best for kids! Finally, we invite and encourage you to stop in and observe our literacy groups, we would love for you to see what we do. Here's to a happy new year for you and your family!
